Medical Internship in Chennai: How to

If you want to do internship in one of the government hospitals, then it takes solid 2 months for completion of the procedures.
It is a long procedure guys, so be prepared to spend the time worthwhile, the best would be to join a coaching class. For the people who want to relax at home after tiring years of study, working out, music is a good option.

Once you are done with your Screening test for foreign medical graduates, you will have to await the result letter, which arrives days later than the internet results. Then you got to apply for the provisional registration, either by sending the documents required with originals for verification by post or in person to MCI. You will be given a tracking no. and can track your application status online or call the MCI.

It will take about 1 - 2 months to receive the provisional registration certificate. If you apply the very next day after receiving the screening test result letter, chances are you will get the provisional certificate in less than a month.

Once you get your provisional certificate, your work in Chennai starts

1. State Medical Council
You have to apply for your State registration no., this is like the state version of provisional registration certificate. This takes just a day, provided you go in the morning and submit early.

2. Kilpauk Medical College
Next, is the time to go and apply for a No Objection letter from the College where you are willing to do your internship. Now, in Chennai there are 3 government medical college hospitals namely Madras medical college, Stanley medical college and Kilpauk medical college.
The fact is that only Kilpauk medical college provides No objection, other colleges simply refuse saying there is no vacancy.
So in Kilpauk medical college, it takes 3 days. Now you have got your No Objection certificate and State council provisional registration.

3. DR.MGR Medical University
Here you have to submit all the documents including originals for verification and grant of No Objection to do internship. This is necessary because all the 3 government colleges are affiliated to this university. This will take 2 weeks.

4. Directorate of Medical Education
Final step, submit all your documents and take a month long vacation. Exactly after a month call the office, and track your application status. Once you application is submitted, it is forwarded to the Health ministry and received back. Then they dispatch it to your home.

5. Kilpauk Medical College Hospital
Mostly, you will be posted here, some get Stanley Medical College due to the random allocation system, but surprisingly people rarely get Madras Medical College.
So you have to take the government order along with No objection Certificate from Dr.MGR Medical University, to the Dean. To process your order and print out a list of your posting schedule, will take a whole day.

Get. Set. Go now!
